So I’m taking the first steps into leaving my current position but don’t want to leave before I have something lined up, but I’d like to leave before Christmas.

I’m applying for 4 fairly varied positions initially and am working on my cover letters now... I hate writing cover letters. One place is a cool classic & weird cars dealer/restoration shop, another a powersports shop/dealer, another a marketing agency, and lastly an engineering consulting company. So varied in nature, but all the positions are exciting to me and fairly entry level.

Problem #1: I feel like I have too much to say in three of the cover letters that I should save for a possible interview.

Problem #2: The marketing firm doesn’t say in their craigslist ad which company they are, though I could narrow it down to ~3 in the area, but it makes it much harder to tailor a letter exclusively for them...

PLEASE HELP

Also, my girlfriend ran the Philly Marathon last weekend and there were a bunch of cops there on dirt bikes... (sorry for the potato)

Kinja'd!!!

Maybe I should become a cop in Philly? /s

Think of the cover letter as a thing to highlight a couple skills but more to make them want to interview you to want to know more

Good luck on the job hunt!

You should ask the marketing company to identify themselves.

I think I will, I hate it when a company advertises a job on CL but doesn’t list a phone or the company...

Sounds like one of those scam mlm companies. Would definitely be cautious on that one.

It wasn't worded like those though and I've filtered through a lot of that crap. The job description also sounded like a company I have worked with before at my current position.

If you are going to use a cover letter then make sure it is customized of the company. Sounds like you are going down that road anyway. For the resume be sure to highlight the goodness you brought to your current/previous job. “Drove a 5% sales increase by using more kittens in markting” “Initiaited a work flow process improvement that saved $10,000 per year by eliminating kittens in the office.

Good luck!
